“No-Fail” Friday: What’s the upside

Fun spelled word with plastic blocks background

I have great news for you. First of all, it’s Friday. Yes, finally. Longest week ever. From my perspective, anyway. And perspective was kind of the name of the game around here this week.

If you checked in on Wednesday, you lucked out. It was fun times around here, which was exactly the point. We all spend plenty of time making our way through piles of work, inboxes, and chores, all day long. It’s part of being an “adult,” right?

Well, yes. But also, not completely.

Yes, you do have to pay your bills. And yes, sometimes it does actually feel good to take care of your place, yourself, and the people who matter to you. Responsibility isn’t all a grind. It doesn’t have to be, either. Building a life is a nice part of life.

It doesn’t mind you can’t have any fun, though.

So, before you get too excited, your mindfulness challenge for this weekend isn’t about running away from it all. I can’t help you with the laundry, or homework, or slide deck. Super sorry. I can help you see things from a different angle, though.

Actually, you’re gonna do that. That’s why it’s a challenge, though. You get it.

This weekend, take a look at something on your to-do list – one of those things you’re likely to bump down the list until maybe it just falls off, or onto next week.

Then, ask yourself why it’s such an issue. Is it boring, annoying, tedious? What? And also, why?

I’m just asking.

There’s a possibility that part of the answer is because you decided it is.   What if you made an intentional choice to take a step to the side, and look at it differently? Does it have to be so difficult? What could you do to make it at least a little fun?

If you can make the bottom of your to-do list fun, you can do anything.

But you already knew that, right?

Take a deep breath, and when you exhale, smile.

Look at that. You’re halfway there. 😉
