Monday Moment: Leave it be

Morning! Bet you woke up this morning wishing it wasn’t quiiiiite Monday just yet. Or, maybe that’s just me putting my stuff on you, but I’m guessing not. Just one more day of weekend…that’s all you need, right? It’s funny how, sometimes, we wish time would just slow down and take a few extra beats already, but, more often, we are eagerly cranking through it (like you will between now and Friday, for example…).

Impatience, instant gratification, and a general discomfort with the uncertainty of the future create the tendency to just “get there,” wherever there is…through a challenging project, to the other side of a tough decision, into a space where we think ambiguity will cease to exist (ha). Of course, there is no “there,” there is only here, right now, and sometimes the best way to navigate a time you wish would pass is to simply let it. Be still, drop the struggle, and observe — the situation, and yourself. The more calm you are, the more clear the view may turn out to be.

Monday Moment: Hit pause


A little reminder as you run around this morning, scrambling to get out the door and into another busy week…you can get a lot done in a mad hurry, fueled by deadlines and anxiety, but that’s kind of a self-perpetuating cycle, you know? That’s the dominate pace of life these days. If that’s how you respond to being busy and overloaded, you’ll probably have more luck changing yourself before you can change that about your life (but you can do that, too!). So…how about trying to find a few minutes each day for some stillness – hit the pause button, so to speak – to reconnect with where you are in that moment, and more importantly, how you are in that moment…?

In doing so, you will hopefully find your breath, but you may also find just the insight or calmness you need to get you through the next challenge with a little more presence and clarity. Everything you need to fulfill your purpose is always available to you, you just need to slow down long enough to be able to access it.

Monday Moment: But still…

Even if you’re dragging this morning, chances are by mid-day you’ll be caught up in the momentum of your week already. It feels great to be productive, and to make the most of every minute as you run down your to-do list. Just don’t forget to find even a few minutes a day for some stillness. Find your breath, check in to your body and quiet your mind. Trust me, I know it sounds unlikely, but you can actually get more done once your mind is calm and clear. Stillness isn’t slowness, weakness or laziness. With intention and presence, it can be a source of energy, clarity and power.
