Monday Moment: Up and at ’em

I know, I know. Unless you’re waking up in a beachside villa or similarly lavish spot today, you probably rolled your eyes the moment you saw this quote. Mondays mornings often don’t exactly make us feel the magic of being alive. It’s ok, because it’s still true. So, even if maybe the first few moments (hours) of the day don’t feel especially delightful, that doesn’t mean the day is a total loss.

Maybe it’s possible that at some point before your Monday wraps up, you can find one moment in which it does feel that way. One moment of gratitude, contentment, or peace, before returning to your inbox and the competing demands and responsibilities of your day. One mindful breath that reminds you how fairly amazing it is that breathing is something you can – and must – do, for the privilege of being able to do and feel and be so much more beyond it.

Magical thinking

My #currentmood has me contemplating perception, possibilities, and the limits we place on ourselves when we decide what can work based on what’s worked in the past, or for other people, or in stories we’ve read, or heard about. I’m less interested in deeply ingrained patterns at the moment than I am in creating new spaces, writing new definitions, and making choices based on intuition, and my personal truth.

Old ideas are like dead weight in the bottom of the bag of experience you’re always carrying around. Judgments, stories, frameworks, and yes, even “wisdom” that you auto-apply to situations when their ambiguity makes you feel anxious only drag you down. They prevent you from being fully present for the unfolding of the new – for the magic show that is life without the boundaries of expectations, or the instant assignment of “meaning” to every moment.

What if whatever happens today is unlike anything you’ve ever experienced before? What if it holds the potential to usher you into something extraordinary? What if there is no playbook for it in your archive of personal reference points?

It might feel kind of magical, especially when you realize that you are the magician.

You can deny it if you want to, but I know it’s true. So do you. You’re not the only one, though. Everyone feels the same way. Why wouldn’t you?

We all want to be special. We all want to make our mark. We all want to live “the life less ordinary.” We are the center of our own existence, and we daydream, plan, work, hope, pray, read the stars, set intentions and seek guidance towards being the best versions of ourselves.
