Monday Moment: Careful calibration

N waheed_fear of being you

The best approach this Monday morning is probably to just leave Ms. Waheed’s mic on the floor where she left if after this one. I mean….whoa. And, yup.

What if you started this week – busy and full and challenging as it may appear – full of gratitude for being the person who is capable of so many things? Imagine pouring your energy into the things that mean the most to you without the added layer of thinking about how you look, or sound, or how that conversation went, and are you being “just right” throughout all of it.

Yes to kindness and respect for your fellow humans. Yes to self-awareness and intentional living. Hard pass to self-consciousness and self-doubt that pulls your attention and energy away from the things that matter most to you, and onto something that is already as capable and beautiful and perfectly right as it needs to be.

If you’re going to pay attention to yourself, do it with gratitude. Do it with wonder. Most of all, do it with love.

Monday Moment: Lightness of being

For some out there, today is just another Monday grind, while for others (in the U.S.), it’s the beginning of a holiday week that’s probably shorter or lighter in some way than others. Perception is everything, isn’t it? Depending on your perspective, today may feel free and easy, or it may feel like a weight landing squarely on your shoulders. In reality, it’s the same day everywhere, for all of us, and like every day, you can drag your way through it with your head down, or you can look up and realize that there’s magic in every minute, and it’s trying to find its way into everything you do, work or play, or both.

Monday Moment: Joy & pain

Whatever you may be experiencing at this moment, you are not the only one. If you’re as happy as you’ve ever been, know that someone else, somewhere else is, too. Same goes for nervous, scared, excited, and even that brutal, rock-bottom kind of sad. Whether it feels good or bad, you are not the only one.

All humans experience the same range of emotions. Sometimes they’re soft and fuzzy, and sometimes they’re like a knife, cutting straight through you. Occasionally, they float through you, and in other moments, they settle in, take up space and try to write your story for you. Some of us are more inclined to engage them than others. We all feel them, though, and we are never the only ones when we do.

That one, particular kind of beauty that only your energy can bring to only your body in only this lifetime, though? That’s all you, and even in this great-big-giant world, it is completely, utterly irreplaceable.
