“No-Fail” Friday: Stretch experience

It’s about time. Or at least, Wednesday’s post was. Mindfulness requires at least a little bit of it, if you really want to see change happen, but none of us has enough. We can hardly manage to get through everything we need to focus on, let alone make time to intentionally take our focus off of them.

No matter how much I tell you that finding the time for mindfulness will make the rest of your time feel different – maybe even make you feel like you have more of it – I know that you won’t know until you know for yourself. Which means, you gotta make time.

You may think you see your “no-fail” mindfulness challenge for this weekend coming a mile away here, but nah. We’ve been there and done that. We might do it again, who knows. This weekend, however, isn’t just about finding time. It’s about switching things up.

If you’re reading this, you’ve probably tried mindfulness before. Maybe you’ve spent some time falling on and off the wagon with your regular practice. That’s ok. I’ve been there, as you know from Wednesday, and also from the fact that I tell you everything.

Point is, you’ve probably tried mindfulness, or you regularly practice it, and you have an idea about what works for you.

Whether you’re like me and you’ve realized you need to shake up the routine a bit, or you’re thinking, “I’m good with the way things are,” your challenge this weekend is to make a change.  It can be temporary, but for just a blink, you’re going to try something new.

You don’t know what you don’t know, right?

If you normally meditate first thing in the morning, try the evening on for size. If you usually sit in stillness and do breathwork, maybe pop into a yoga class or find a video about mindful walking. If you like guided meditations from one particular app, try a new one. Free trials abound, so there goes that excuse. Just find a way to mix it up and stretch into something a little new. If you don’t like it, that’s ok, because now you know.

There’s always that slight chance that you end up learning something new about yourself, or with a new trick up your sleeve. Isn’t that why you’re here, after all?

This weekend, you have full permission to experiment, but hypotheses and conclusions are optional. Check in with yourself, and then check out something new. And remember that no matter how it goes, there’s a zero percent fail rate here.

The odds are in your favor. Have fun 🙂
